Product Description

Raw Material Selection: Copper-based brake pads use copper powder as the main raw material, typically with the addition of additives such as tin, lead, graphite, and molybdenum disulfide. Tin improves the material's strength and hardness; lead improves its frictional properties and machinability; and graphite and molybdenum disulfide are excellent solid lubricants, reducing the coefficient of friction and improving the brake pad's wear resistance.

Powder Mixing Process: Mechanical mixing is used to thoroughly and uniformly mix the various raw material powders. This step is crucial, directly affecting the consistency of the brake pad's final performance. Researchers optimize the powder mixing equipment and process parameters, such as controlling the mixing time and rotation speed, to ensure uniform distribution of each component.

Molding Process: Commonly used molding methods include compression molding and isostatic pressing. Compression molding involves placing the mixed powder into a mold and shaping it under pressure; this method is suitable for producing brake pads with simple shapes and large batches. Isostatic pressing utilizes the property of a liquid medium to uniformly transmit pressure, applying pressure to the powder in all directions, compacting it into shape; this method is more suitable for producing brake pads with complex shapes and high density requirements. Experiments have shown that brake pads prepared by isostatic pressing have a density 5%-10% higher than those prepared by compression molding, thus improving their wear resistance.

Sintering Process: The formed blank is sintered to densify it. The sintering process is generally carried out in a protective atmosphere to prevent metal oxidation. By controlling parameters such as sintering temperature, time, and heating rate, ideal microstructure and properties can be obtained. Research results from Tsinghua University indicate that after optimizing the sintering process, the fluctuation range of the friction coefficient of copper-based brake pads is reduced, and braking stability is significantly improved.

Advantages of Powder Metallurgy in Brake Pads

Excellent Friction Performance: Powder metallurgy brake pads can maintain a relatively stable friction coefficient under different temperature and speed conditions, with the friction coefficient fluctuation controlled within ±0.05, ensuring smooth and reliable braking. Sufficient braking force can be provided during both high-speed driving and emergency braking.

Good Wear Resistance: Due to its special material structure and manufacturing process, powder metallurgy brake pads have excellent wear resistance, a long service life, reduced replacement frequency, and lower maintenance costs.

High Temperature Resistance: During high-speed braking, brake pads generate a large amount of heat. Powder metallurgy materials can withstand instantaneous temperatures of 1000℃ without performance degradation, far exceeding the 600℃ limit of traditional resin-based materials, effectively ensuring the normal operation of the braking system.
